Shelter Dog Bffs Find Forever Home Together

According to The Dodo, dogs Adonis and Apollo were both dumped off at a high-kill shelter in Texas by their owner earlier last month.

Cindy Droogmans, the founder of the A-Team Elite Rescue Dogs, a group that saves needy dogs from overcrowded shelters, rescued the bonded and scared pups and brought them to her veterinarian in Huntington, New York. Droogmans told The Dodo that the dogs were probably dumped "because they are heartworm positive, like most dogs in Texas," but luckily she said was able to get them full treatment.

"A bonded pair is always difficult to place, but look at them," Droogmans said. "How can they ever be split up?" Though it is harder to find a home for two dogs, Droogmans was doggone determined to find a forever family for the pair.

But Apollo and Adonis' story was shared on Facebook and all over social media, and a couple from Virginia saw the story of the bonded dogs on Facebook and knew they had to adopt the dogs.

"A friend of mine shared a post about them needing a home and to be kept together on Facebook," Jennifer told The Dodo. "I took one look at them and immediately applied to adopt them."

"Since moving into our new house a year ago, with four acres, we have been wanting more rescues," Jennifer told The Dodo. "I didn't think we would be picked because we live far away from the rescue group and had two other dogs already, but I got a call the next day saying they loved our application and if we wanted them. Of course we said 'yes!'"

And now, after a few scary hiccups, Adonis and Apollo seem to be adjusting well to their new home and family.

"They are doing great and getting used to their new house," Jennifer said. "They are very sweet babies and a perfect addition to our family!"
