Shelter Dog Abandoned By Her Family Won't Let Go Of Her Favorite Toy

According to The Dodo, a young pit bull named Layla was left at a shelter in New York, because her family felt they already had enough pets and Layla was just one too many.

"We read over her owner surrender notes, which stated she lived with five kids and two other dogs, and that she was surrendered due to too many pets. It's very sad." Jackie O'Sullivan, the cofounder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, an organization that helps save homeless, abused and neglected dogs, told The Dodo

Layla was visibly heartbroken to be left at the shelter by her family. She missed her family, including her young human siblings, who she was especially close with and attached to according to a Facebook post from dog rescuer Julie Carner.

"She was obviously very uncomfortable in the shelter and not doing very well at all. Many dogs get stressed in a shelter situation – they've lost everything they know. The dog was very close to the children in the home, so it's no surprise she was uncomfortable in the shelter," O'Sullivan told The Dodo about Layla.

Layla was left with nothing but a stuffed toy and that stuffed toy is the only thing that seemed to bring the sweet pit bull comfort.

"SHE WONT LET GO OF THE ONLY THING SHE HAS LEFT IN THIS WORLD - HER STUFFY ... She carries that stuffy down the street and through the yard - never letting go. She was VERY ATTACHED to the 2 and 7 year olds she lived with and followed them everywhere. But today, that stuffy is all she has left," the Facebook post from Julie Carner read.

Sadly, Layla was left at high kill shelter, where she was to be euthanized.
